Hello lovelies. This will be a recap of my first semester of my RN-BSN degree. For those of you who are not aware of what this is, this is a program that allows a nurse with an associate degree to achieve their bachelors.
Let us have another sit-down chat. Get your drink and get comfortable.
I personally went from achieving my associates to pursuing my bachelors. As a result of my visa status, things are a bit more restricted as it relates to how this can be achieved.
As stated in a previous post, I am expected to complete 12 credits per semester with only one online class per semester.
This semester, I completed fours classes which satisfied my 12-credits requirement.
These courses included an introduction Religious course that is required by my college, a Nurse Situations course, Healthy Aging, and Information Systems.
All courses were challenging in a positive way and all my professors were understanding and easy to work with, especially as we moved into the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Religious course opened my eyes to various religions including Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, and Hinduism just to name a few.
My faith is Holiness, so various beliefs were interesting to follow, however, I am happy that I took the class. I feel that the knowledge from this class will be an asset as I take care of different patients whose cultures and beliefs varies from mines.
The Nursing Situation course helped me to explore certain theories and issues within nursing. It especially highlighted the role of the nurse as an advocate.
In this class we discussed various patient and nurse situations and became aware of our own bias towards/against certain situations.
The Healthy Aging class focused not only on the physical aging process but also observed the mental and emotional process. We discussed how elders were treated within the workforce and came to appreciate the natural process of aging. This class reinforced that aging is not something to be feared.
Finally, the Information Systems class was supposed to be my only online course until COVID-19 came along. Thus, there were no major adjustments to this class. As a result, it was self-taught with discussion boards, essays, and projects.
This class focused on the technological advancements within the medical field and analyzed how nurses can be a part of this process.
You Are The Greatest Project You Will Ever Work On.
I thought all my classes were aided in self-growth especially as we moved towards virtual learning. The professors focused on not only helping us to complete assignments but to understand them as well and taught us to analyze to see how we could add these lessons to both our professional and personal lives.
Additionally, the journey to school was no walk in the park as school is over two hours away.
At least twice a week, I had made the trek to the school.
Once per week, I had a long day which caused me to reach home close to mid-night; on these days, I was also on campus for most of the day.
Self-discipline as well as self-care has been paramount to this new path in my life.
I was thinking of making a post about commuting; however, things are a bit uncertain for the fall semester as it relates to the pandemic.
I have personally found the virtual learning to be welcoming as it relates to my physical energy. It gave me the chance to actually learn the material and study at me own pace.
That’s it for now. Thank you for reading through this little recap. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.
Until next time, Peace be.
